Generally, my yarn of choice is not cotton, frankly because I find it stiffer and harder to work with, but this 100% cotton yarn left me impressed. I was surprised at how soft this cotton yarn felt and how easy it was to work with in comparison to other cotton yarns I have tried. The yarn felt extremely strong and durable, with great stitch definition. I still did feel some hand strain after crocheting for some time, but I think this is a great option if you are looking for a high quality cotton yarn.

Pros:

  • A softer cotton yarn
  • Available in a wide variety of colors
  • Higher-quality stitch definition
  • Pilling is not an issue
  • Durable and machine washable

Cons:

  • Increased hand strain as cotton is generally more inelastic
  • Smaller skeins make it not as affordable

Overall Rating:

I am a crocheter who uses a lot of acrylic yarn. Needless to say, I am quite picky when it comes to choosing acrylic-based yarn for my projects. First, I was immediately shocked by the number of color choices for this yarn, my favorite being the wide variety of green tones. For a designer who crochets plants, the perfect green is a must. I appreciated that there are over 10 different shades of green.

While working with this yarn, I was thoroughly impressed with how soft it is, unlike some other popular acrylic yarns. It was so easy to work with and caused little to no hand strain while crocheting. The only downside is that this yarn may pill or split, which commonly happens with most acrylic yarns. I did find that splitting while crocheting with this yarn was at a minimum.

Pros:

  • Huge color selection containing every color imaginable
  • Very affordable
  • Extremely soft and easy to work worth
  • Can easily be mixed with other acrylic yarns

Cons:

  • Can sometimes pill or split

Overall Rating:

Crocheting with more plush-type yarns is a huge trend right now in the world of amigurumi. Plush yarns are normally not my go-to when it comes to designing my patterns but crocheting with different types of yarns can always be fun! When I first saw some Premier Yarn at my local Dollar Tree, I had to try it. I excitedly decided to crochet a mini ghost, but quickly found myself covered in white yarn guts; the yarn was shedding all over me. To my disappointment sewing the arms of my ghost presented another challenge, yarn snapping and falling apart even more.

The color options are disappointedly low and Premier only offers larger skeins on their website. Large skeins can be particularly handy depending on how often you use the yarn, but I was disappointed to find the selection in almost every Dollar Tree, where smaller skeins are sold, was even worse. Although this yarn is soft in texture and can create many cute plushies, I don’t think I will be purchasing this yarn again.

Pros:

  • Spend more money upfront, but get a giant skein of plush yarn
  • Very soft and shiny which can add a nice touch

Cons:

  • Not very many color options
  • Difficult to find smaller skeins
  • Sheds and breaks A LOT!

Overall Rating:

4. Parfait Chunky

For someone who does not regularly choose to crochet with bulky yarns, I was very impressed with Parfait Chunky. I have tried a few different bulky weight yarns and what usually scares me away is the shedding. Although I still did experience some shedding with this yarn, it was by far less in comparison to others I have tried. I personally love how soft the texture feels, making this the perfect yarn for a plushie or blanket. There is also a large selection of different colors, which I very much appreciate.

One thing I did notice while crocheting with this yarn was how much thinner it felt in comparison to other bulky-weight yarns such as Loops & Threads Sweet Snuggles Lite. It may not be a con in your eyes, but I found it kind of odd that Parfait Chunky had such a difference in density.

Pros:

  • Large selection of colors
  • Soft, durable, and minimal issues with shedding
  • Perfect for plushies
  • Soft and sleek which adds a nice touch to plushies, blankets, etc.

Cons:

  • Still has some shedding and issues with yarn breaking
  • Very popular, meaning certain colors tend to sell out
  • Felt thinner than other bulky weight yarns I have tried

Overall Rating:

Overall, I was very happy with the yarns I tried, my favorite being Basix Worsted. I really enjoyed working with this yarn and plan to buy more in the future. I am a relatively new user of Premier Yarns so I had a lot of fun trying new yarns and will definitely be adding some more to my stash.

I hope you give some of these yarns a try as well! If you have tried any of these yarns, I would love to hear your thoughts! I will definitely be reviewing more yarns in the future, so if there are any you would like me to try, feel free to send me a message.

While I am an affiliate of Premier Yarns, all opinions are my own. If you have any questions about this yarn, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to spend a small portion of it with me! I hope you have an amazing rest of your day and as always, happy crocheting!
